The Time has come for change, and The Disabled Young People’s Collective (DYP) is searching for new people to create that change with.

Are you ready to learn more about disability pride, justice, and organizing? Do you want to be a member of a statewide, nationally-known organization? If so, we welcome you to join us at the Activism, Community, Empowerment (ACE) Summit!

Who: YOU! Anyone with a disability between the ages of 15 and 24 is encouraged to apply!

What: The Activism Community Empowerment (ACE) Summit will be a fun-filled, life changing, four-day, 3 night event with great people.

Where: The Ace Summit will be held on the beautiful and historic campus of The Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, North Carolina.

When: The fun will begin on Sunday, August 1st and the party won’t stop until Wednesday, August 4th.

Guess what? That isn’t all! The end of ACE doesn’t have to be the last time you hear from us. ACE is a great opportunity to become DYP’s future leaders, and we know you are perfect for this!

The application is short and fun to fill out. It will only take a moment, for a lifetime of memories with great people and a new community. So, apply today! We look forward to hearing from you!

DYP travels to the D!

July 16th, 2009 - 

DYP member smiles outside of coffee shop Four DYP members travelled to Detroit together for the Women’s Media Summit and the Allied Media Conference. Here they met with other disability activists, radical women of color feminist bloggers, and all-around amazing mediamakers. They also facilitated the women of color with disabilities caucus. All four were excited to come home with new ideas and media skills.

Save Our School: Blind Kids Rule

DYP members rallying to keep school for the blind open
Many DYP members are alumni of the Governor Morehead School for the Blind. State legislators threatened to make drastic cuts in programs for visually impaired young people, including funding for the school and various clinics. Although there was some debate on whether DYP should support this effort, it was decided that visually impaired students should have the option to attend GMS if they want and that DYP would spend the summer joining leaders of the blind and visually impaired community advocate against shutting down the school.
